Yes. Lead acid-free batteries do wear out and need to be replaced periodically.
The ZENN is powered by sealed, valve-regulated lead acid-free batteries that require NO maintenance. These batteries have no "memory" effect so they can be charged any time, even to "top off" your charge. Your batteries will last the longest when they are fully charged, so whenever the ZENN is parked, plug it in.
Battery life depends on many factors, but we think a good rule of thumb is to plan to replace the battery set every three years. The good news is that nearly every bit of the Discover battery system is recyclable.
Based on current prices, a set of replacement batteries would cost about $1,800. A set lasting three years would have a "fuel" cost of about $50 per month. Compare that to the cost of filling up your conventional vehicle's gas tank. We think the ZENN is still less expensive to operate.
