Do emissions from the power plant also compare favorably?

Sure, the ZENN produces zero tailpipe emissions itself, but we know that the power plants which provide the electricity do. But, let's do the math to see how they compare.

The initial comparison is that the ZENN's zero emissions is much preferable to tailpipe emissions from gas-burning vehicles. The Honda Civic, for example, produces about six tons of CO2 each year.

But, just making a gallon of gasoline dumps 24 pounds of CO2 in the air we breathe. Burning that same gallon puts another 19 pounds of CO2 in the air. Let's say our Honda Civic gets 30 miles per gallon of gasoline in city driving. That means about 1.4 pounds of CO2 was generated for each mile.

A coal-fired power plant, on the other hand, produces about two pounds of CO2 for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity it generates. That adds up to a whopping 67 pounds of CO2 for every "gallon" of electric energy. The
ZENN gets the equivalent of 245 miles per "gallon" of gas.
So that is 67 pounds of CO2 divided by 245 miles…carry the one…well, that makes the ZENN CO2 impact 0.25 pounds per mile, about 1.2 pounds less CO2 for every mile!

The CO2 output is even less if your power comes from hydro, wind, solar or if you plug in during off-peak hours. Any way you look at it, that is real clean!
