How will the ZENN perform in the winter?

Gasoline engines produce huge amounts of greenhouse gas during cold weather, especially for short trips. No matter what the temperature, the ZENN produces zero emissions.

In cold weather, the ZENN has a reduced range because battery output is affected by temperature. In our driving around Minneapolis, the range has been 20 miles on a full charge when the temperature is around freezing (in a ZENN that is parked outside).

Charged overnight, the electrical current helps to keep the ZENN's batteries fresh and at full capacity, and a garage, heated or not, will improve range compared to being parked outside. In our driving, using the ZENN heater reduces the range further, about 20% or four miles. Remember, you can pre-heat your ZENN before your ever hit the streets.

In snowy conditions, the ZENN handles like other sub-compact cars. Like other cars in its class, it has low clearance so it may not be a good performer in deep snow. Tire traction has been okay in our driving in rain, wet leaves and the little bit of ice we have encountered. Because the electric motor is powerful, a light touch on the accelerator is required when the road is slick and cautious braking is needed when the conditions are tough.

The ABS body panels do not rust and are unaffected by salt or other chemicals commonly applied to roads in the winter.

Even though you may find deep snowfalls a bit challenging, there is absolutely no reason to put your ZENN "on ice" for the winter!
